An Ayurvedic Guide to BLOATING!

While there could be many causes for bloating based on your unique body type, I wanted to make a quick video to outline the MAJOR foods that cause the most aggravation/bloating based on your dominant constitution (Dosha), Vata, Pitta & Kapha.

VATA qualities are dry and light, so when you eat foods with the same type of qualities, you increase the same energy within your body, making it difficult for your body to produce fluids to help with digestion. You should be avoiding:

  • Dry and light foods; have more warm, moist, heavier foods

  • Raw food/veggies; cook your veggies to make them easier to digest

  • Coffee/Tea with caffeine; Coffee is extremely dehydrating to your already dry system

  • Salads: the quality of salads is very light and airy, which increases gas and bloating in your system

PITTA qualities are hot/spicy/oily, so go towards the OPPOSITE to counter-act the natural energies of your body. You should be avoiding foods with acidic qualities:

  • Spicy foods; they increase the fire already in your body when you need to cool yourself down

  • Fermented drinks/foods; produce acidic reaction leading to acid reflux

  • Fried foods; fried oil is also acidic in our digestive tract, requiring more stomach acid to break it down

  • Alcohol; acidic in nature and very hard on the liver which disturbs our PH levels

KAPHA qualities are wet/heavy/cold, so go towards the opposite which is actually VATA. You should be avoiding foods that are heavy, thick, wet which slow down our digestion:

  • Dairy/cream; dairy is thick and moist/creamy so this move slow in your digestive tract, causing blockage

  • Gluten; when gluten is digested it becomes sticky and can stick to our colon walls

  • Red/Heavy meats: Super heavy foods that take a long time to digest and slow your metabolism

These tips have DIRECTLY helped my PITTA Dosha just a couple months ago when I was experiencing constant bloating every single day. Like I said, these are generic tips! If you’re looking for more specific answers tailored to you, reach out to me!
